Clever Words 01:28
I really want to impress you with my intellect My conversational gambits My stunning verbal prowess With my articulation Inspire adulation Of my sure elocution, nothing less Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers he Gave me the verbal artfulness to draw you close to me A stumbling tongue is useless To win a balking beau A wavering admiration cannot be captured so I’ll practice perfect diction Inspired by the conviction -That nimble tongues can make affection grow Seven silver swans went sailing silently to sea Silken sultry words will send you sailing straight to me How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood He couldn’t chuck as much as this one could to capture the attention of you There is no inspiration For agile tongue and wit In awkward intonation or stutters on the lip I’ll stake my reputation On rich enunciation Clear speaking lets you catch my cunning quip She is selling seashells on the seashore near the sea A graceful twist of words will draw you mesmerized to me

Bird Magic 04:21
He was a common soldier Coming home from the war All of his silver in his belt securely stored He didn't need a problem Didn't need a new life to save But she was so small and proud and young and lost and brave Cormorant will bring you home on a breeze no more to roam Gentle Zephyrs stir the heart with longing The falcon's eye will find the trail and track the moment without fail He will lead you to a true homecoming And her hair was bright as moonlight And her eyes were green as the dress she wore And her face wove an enchantment Though he'd seen many a face that was more lovely before And she spoke so brave and boldly That he knew he had to have this woman from the start And the one thing that he never thought to rescue was his heart She was a lonesome woman Out in the world alone So many debts to pay and not a one her own She didn't expect a handout Just wanted to earn her way How could it come to this-To let a stranger pay? Raven's vision sees the spark in a weary soldier's heart How could anyone reject his offering? Shadowed owl will fill the night with his voice so warm and bright Painting pictures of a new tomorrow CHORUS Children came twice and three times Each welcomed into the nest The woman he sheltered and the soldier took their rest Each of them proud and headstrong But together they're not alone Together they build a house and make that house a home Meadowlark will heal the wounds with a cheerful lilting tune Hear her singing in the morning's dawning Eagle flies against the sky and casts protection far and wide Linked forever to his dark beginnings

Friend Owl 03:51
Friend Owl Up in the rafters there the doves breathe softy in their nests feathers in my hair Friend Owl I was so innocent I didn't know the terror comes when the wonder's spent But you blink your eyes and turn away No clever answers here today Fly into the forest I'll follow if I can Fly. a-wa----aaaa-ay Friend Owl, Nothing is right today You slyly eye the corners where the wee mice play Friend Owl Their tiny feet stir the dust They fear to see your shadow as all small things must But your silent wings were made to kill Regardless of the tears I spill I cannot fight my nature Nor canyou Fly. a-wa----aaaa-ay The outward path can rip and tear and we are never quite prepared A new Path and an old one are the same When you've never been--anywhere Friend Owl Wisdom is often sad But I cannot change my visions to the ones I had Friend Owl, I'll loose my fingers from The tenderness of memories and then I'll come And follow broken cobblestones to destinations still unknown Onward in the shadow of your flight Fly. a-wa----aaaa-ay Fly!

Minecraft 02:58
Oh well, I’m punching down a tree I’m gonna build myself a bench I’m gonna fabricate an axe Before I sit back and relax In Minecraft In Minecraft Gotta work before the sun goes down Before the Zombies and the creepers come round And then I’ll hide inside my hut until the sun comes up In Minecraft In Minecraft Oh well, I’m cuttin down some grass I’m gonna plant myself some grain I’m gonna cut the harvest down So I can do it all again In Minecraft In Minecraft Oh, I’m workin' in the fields all day Til the spiders come out to play And the skeletons fight in the meadow all night In Minecraft In Minecraft Oh, well, I’m delving down below Where the molten lava flows I’m gonna find myself some ore That’ll help me with my chores In Minecraft In Minecraft I’ll melt that metal down I’ll have iron by the pound And then I’ll lay down rail In a coal cart trail In Minecraft In Minecraft And when I’m buff I’ll run around And hunt those zombies down I want some carrot and potatoes They don’t have any tomatoes But I have some ponies now Oh, well,I want to play some more But survival is a bore So I’m gonna take the challenge And make it hard core In Minecraft In Minecraft I’ll start over and over again Hold my breath and count to ten And then I’m gonna go bananas When I reach Minecraft nirvana In Minecraft In Minecraft

Bones 04:02
As children we are told that in the times of old We were the lords of other men We kept among our kin and multiplied our sins Until it was all swept away. Bones of our mothers Bones of our fathers Leading through a darkening night Where the journey takes us-‘til the journey breaks us Never to give up the fight The price of our defeat is our daily bread and meat As we pay the recompense again The cost of life is dear when it comes with blood and tears And is buried on the backs of friends Bones of a lover Bones of a brother Never to forget the sight Where the journey takes us-‘til the journey breaks us Never to give up the fight Musical bridge (optional) We sowed the seeds of death and we’re doing all our best But still the task is not complete We pass the burden on in our children, in our songs Until there’s no one left to see Bones of my sister Every day I miss her Still I keep her by my side Where the journey takes us-‘til the journey breaks us Never to give up the fight (Bridge) Walking through fields of green-autumn’s ahead of me Ride to the end of my sweep Sweet as the summer breeze rustling through the trees All the things I can’t keep Remind me of summers home sitting in shade alone A pack unloaded by my side Until I ride out again-counting the absent friends Nothing to hold but my pride Bones from each other-I will be another Death for us is not the end My taste of death will kill a foe but when that is I’ll never know And I will join the fight again Bones polished brightly. Edges sharpened lightly Living days with all my might Where the journey takes us-‘til the journey breaks us Never to give up the fight Living days with all my might Never to forget the sight Never to give up the fight

New Spock 04:12
New Spock, after the movie we all agreed You look like a psycho from network TV But you could be the guy to win our hearts You have emerald eye shadow from Maybelline Your uniform's blue and your blood is green You've given the whole franchise a new start New Spock, you're hot Don't let the networks make you a villain you're not You can have Pon Far In my rag top car And whisper sweet logical nothings while reading my thoughts Oh, oh, oh, Spock You are the Vulcan that I adore You know just what a tricorder's for So Latinize some words and make me squeal New Kirk is a cutie but still the same He has twice the ego but half the brain He doesn't have that Kolonar appeal New Spock, you're hot Don't let the networks make you a villain you're not You can have Pon Far In my rag top car And whisper sweet logical nothings while reading my thoughts Oh, oh, oh, Spock I fantasize we're both out in space You need volunteers to restore your race I'll do my green peace best and raise my hand The old Vulcan planet just went kaboom! So what's a green salmon supposed to do? We'll build a Vulcan beach house in the sand New Spock, you're hot Don't let the networks make you a villain you're not You can have Pon Far In my rag top car And whisper sweet logical nothings while reading my thoughts Oh, oh, oh, Spock Old Spock was adorable for his time But let's just face it he's past his prime But he's still sweet as pie. That's vegetarian. Even though he must be about hundred and three He's still a pretty fine sight to see Not all his female fans are septuagenarians New Spock, you're hot Don't let the networks make you a villain you're not You can have Pon Far In my rag top car And whisper sweet logical nothings while reading my thoughts Oh, oh, oh, Spock ......Oh, Spock

Danny O 03:06

I will not have another. Oh, Danny oh My oh, Danny oh The people here are bound to earth and plod the farmers field My oh, Danny, oh And Danny watches stars at night and charts the heavens’ wheel My oh, Danny, oh Danny his eyes still blazing, talks as the skies are hazing Oh, Danny oh Danny will be my lover. I will not have another Oh, Danny, oh My oh, Danny, oh I saw my Danny in a field a flower in his hand My oh, Danny, oh And I know I shouldn't be here but he is such a man My oh, Danny, oh Mystery's voice is callin'. Under it's spell I'm fallin' oh, Danny, oh Danny will be my lover. You look at me like I'm an alien from outer space But you don't even know me, you're not living in my place While you're jumping to conclusions; I see the irony How you think that passing judgment makes you holier than me No box for me I'll keep on doing just as I please They don't make one that fits me comfortably I'll just stay who I am I am Don't tell me what I'm thinking you don't live inside my head I'm not feeling any conflict when I put myself to bed If you're multiplying two and two and coming up with three Don't tell me that it's my problem. Don't tell me what I can be I'll keep on doing just as I please They don't make one that fits me comfortably I'll just stay who I am I am I'll take my square peg and put it in a star I'll drink my orange juice and eat it with a snickers bar I don't see what it has to do with you No box for me I'll keep on doing just as I please They don't make one that fits me comfortably I'll just stay who I am I am Don't tell me that I cannot love the people that I do Or think that I’ll discard them 'cause they don't appeal to you They don't fit one category and they're living happily They don't fit in little boxes; they're the perfect friends for me No box for me I'll keep on doing just as I please They don't make one that fits me comfortably I'll just stay who I am I am Oooo ooooo I am

A skeptic is the best way to describe me in my youth I laughed at the abduction crowd and yearned to know the truth Then came the moment when I saw the light When I was first abducted in the middle of the Night Roswell, flying saucers, lights up in the sky It wasn’t all for crackpots, just imagine my surprise Hollywood directors give us cuddly ET But I know what first contact means to me The first was pretty awful but the second time as worse They tried some telepathic tests, I fear that I was terse I learned some basic manners running through a maze I think there was some cheese involved The rest is all a haze Crop circles, fiery wheels and mutilated cows This intellectual skeptic is more open minded now New agey types would like to take an alien out to tea But I know what first contact means to me I go to my meetings with the other abductees Sometimes I think I should have joined a gym I want to find a way to keep the aliens away But somehow I’m still out here on a limb The third time I was waylaid drew some comment from my peers That’s when some clashing jewelry was cemented to my ear It wasn’t half as bad as what they did with tubes I guess I could have had it worse, at least they used some lube Kidnapped, anesthetized, purged and tagged The rigid sigmoidoscopy annoyed me pretty bad A tin foil hat’s an item I admire secretly Yes, I know what first contact means to me Yes, Pyramids, crystal skulls and pictures in Peru I scoffed and scorned and pointed fun but that’s before I knew Some other folk may look upon a UFO with glee But I know what first contact means to me

There's a crushed blue velvet hat there in the corner, You can see it through the dust motes in the light; And I could wear it if I wanted, And someday if I'm brave I might Step through the door A door that stands between what's now and remember when, Concealing sad regrets and might-have-beens, Through the door. Brocaded drapes trail gracefully by paintings there, Childish fingers smudging unicorn whiteness; And I could paint those paintings deftly, And touch that graceful burning brightness There through the door; A door that shelters childish dreams and carefree laughter, Of hopes for love and happily ever after Through the door. There are treasures to be had - if I choose to take them; If I choose to tread that path - I'd gladly make them' And if I couldn't find my way back home Would that be sad? The costumes drape a form that might be mine someday, If I lose the clumsiness some say I show; With a queenly grace in velvet draped - Serenity I'd calmly go In through the door. A door that's built of secret fears of simply living And fears of treasured people not forgiving; Through the door. I touch the frame and gaze inside that wonderland; If maybe it's not now, perhaps tonight. I'll take that step beyond the threshold As if it's always been my right' Step through the door Forget all my fears about the possibilities and step through that door like it belongs to me; Through the door. If I could crush my fears... I'd go tonight

Grey 03:43
Staring at the Ceiling thinking of the past I want to hear you where I heard you last a brush of nothing and I feel you near A phantom lover I can Almost hear And the world is grey In a sky gone dark huddled in a corner sheltering a spark as a storm front grows And the sky is bleak in a world as black as my sin and it's my sin but I won't give in when the storm front comes Pacing in a room tearing at the walls Where we both lived and we once had it all peeling back paper til my fingers bleed Looking for a layer that's still You and me And the world is grey In a sky gone dark huddled in a corner sheltering a spark as a storm front grows And the sky is bleak in a world as black as my sin and it's my sin but I won't give in when the storm front comes Memories turning spooling to the floor awash in feelings I have felt before My worst regrets will never bring you back Talking to your ghost will never fill my lack And the world is grey In a sky gone dark huddled in a corner sheltering a spark as a storm front grows And the sky is bleak in a world as black as my sin and it's my sin but I won't give in when the storm front comes Staring at the ceiling Looking at the walls I want to hear you we once had it all Pacing in a room Thinking of the past I'll breathe you in and try to Make it last And the world is grey In a sky gone dark huddled in a corner sheltering a spark as a storm front grows And the sky is bleak in a world as black as my sin and it's my sin but I won't give in when the storm front comes and it's my sin but I won't give in when the storm front comes

about

Char MacKay Spokane, Washington

I’ve been writing and performing songs at conventions since 1995. Through The Door is a collection of some of the most popular songs, inspired by authors (like Lois McMaster Bujold) TV (Star Trek, Game of Thrones), gaming, and general silly things like nursery rhymes and my take on the world. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed writing them. ... more
